ECA Slate Day 2021

ECA Slate Day took place on Wednesday 9 June and was attended by over 400 international colleagues from across the industry. Our ambition was to make this our best and most international event to date.

With a bumper day of presentations from 14 global content providers all showcasing new event cinema titles with special messages from King the of Waltz himself, the legendary Andre Rieu and Edgar Wright the content was, as always, varied, enticing and certainly had something for everyone to enjoy.

Slate Day also provided an opportunity for the ECA to report on international findings from the last year to show the impact and uplift in event cinema content. Comscore presented the global box office performance of event cinema from 2020 from 12 different territories. Movio showed how event cinema content in the UK and the US has helped to drive attendance and bring in new audiences to the cinema post-pandemic.

The day started with an international welcome from the event cinema community each explaining the opportunities and challenges for event cinema for their territories. The two panel discussions delved into the success of, and subsequent opportunities for, music events in cinemas and the evolution of streaming for event cinema content.  Finally, the ECA have been supporting the Cinema Technology Community, who have funded and created a range of test material for the cinemas to use to help improve the presentation and quality of live events. This is an entirely new initiative and learning programme to deliver to the industry.

A huge thanks to all that were involved, presented, participated and attended. You can watch all the highlight sessions below.

A recording of the event is available to ECA members along with the slides from the presentations. Please email info@eventcinemaassociation.org to request access.
